My first BANYA experience ever, was last Sunday! Wow, how to describe the experience is challenging me. To say it was AMAZING is such an understatement!
When I arrived, the manager greated me with an invitation to enjoy some traditional herbal tea with honey. YES, I said. Then she introduced me to a tall, slender man named Alex, who was to be my Banya host. OH, I thought, is this the time for modesty? No, I found out. He’s a professional who has seen many a man and woman in a towel! Ha ha ha.
Alex escorted me to my private banya, which smelled so rich with a woodsy, moist fragrance. Very soothing! He showed me where to change, and to emerge with my towel on. I had my own private area in which to lounge and relax and have some yummy cookies with my
tea.
Into the sauna itself I went, built entirely out of wood, of course. Russians have been using the banya experience since the middle ages!
So I thought, why not for this girl? Tee hee. It was hot in there, and
since I was a first time client, they checked on me every few minutes!
You wear a traditional russian felt hat to protect your head and ears, so I looked like an elf. 
When I came out to rest, my tea and water tasted so good. The cookies went down pretty easily too! Then back in for my treatment!
Alex offered me the traditional and invigorating venik massage. A venik is a bundle of oak branches bound together, and when massaged over the body, it jump-starts your metabolism. The leaves have been soaked, and that makes them flexible, and it opens the pours which releases cleansing, natural oils and relaxing scents. It was awesome.
Then out to rest and then take a dip in the cold water bath. Wow, that makes you tingle all over. How refreshing! Now back to the sauna for a few minutes more and another treatment of a honey mask! Alex rocked my world, I’m telling you!
Now it was shower time and off to my massage! Olga is a tall, beautiful woman who gave me a 1/2 hour massage that was worth writing a bog about! Holy smokes, I was relaxed! So theraputic. (you can buy a whole hour massage if you want to)
Off to shower and dress with a NEW frame of mind! I will go back again and again for this experience! In fact, I am taking my friend Allison for her birthday this Sunday!

WOW! What a warm and wonderful Christmas in Oregon with my nieces and sister-in-law, and their families! I am so blessed to have these lovely people in my life.
Ok, obviously this is a pic of me on Christmas morning. Ha ha ha. There is a story behind the bear that I am holding. My niece Alicia’s husband stood in line for over an hour at Build-A-Bear to make this sweet little bear for their unborn baby. So sweet. I held it to pass my love to the baby.
