Conventional wisdom states that being an unpaid intern means making an awful lot of coffee, but two such interns decided not to take that sort of treatment lying down. Alex Footman and Eric Glatt are suing Fox Searchlight Pictures over their Black Swan internships, claiming that the production company violated minimum wage and overtime laws by assigning only menial—not educational—tasks to the interns. Such tasks should have been performed by paid employees, they argue; labor rules require employers to provide an educational experience in order to be exempted from paying interns.

Specifically, Footman says he was in charge of coffee, lunch orders, and janitorial tasks, while Glatt did accounting work, the New York Times reports. They want class-action status for their lawsuit because, they allege, Fox Searchlight has used more than 100 such interns on various productions. But the blogosphere is largely unimpressed:

•So they’re suing over being forced to make coffee and take lunch orders … “in other words, regular intern stuff?” writes Margaret Hartmann on Jezebel.
•“Interns Sue Black Swan for Making Them Do Intern Things,” declares New York magazine’s Vulture blog. “Scott Rudin is laughing right now at these ‘indignities,’ so hard,” writes Kyle Buchanan. Footman should look on the bright side: He did learn something, namely, “how Natalie Portman likes her coffee.”
•Just accept it, suggests Adrian Chen on Gawker: “If you want to make money as an intern in Hollywood you’ll have to draw on some old-fashioned American ingenuity and start a side-racket selling pieces of garbage you pick out of celebrities’ dressing room trash on eBay.”

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month:
Did you know that Prostate Cancer is the second deadliest cancer among men?! Dr. Gill, professor and chairman of the USC Institute of Urology will lay out the facts Jack about screenings, tests, prevention, treatment and new technology, such as the new da Vinci Robot that is helping with innovative procedures at USC.

Did you also know?
· 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer during his lifetime
· In 2011, there will be approximately 241,000 new cases
· More than 2 million men currently living with the disease
· 32,000 men died from Prostate Cancer last year
· The highest incidence of Prostate Cancer is found in African-American men
· Notable men who have battled Prostate Cancer include: Robert DeNiro, Rudy Giuliani, Nelson Mandela, Joe Torre, James Brown, John Kerry, Colin Powell and former 007, Roger Moore.

Because of the lack of knowledge and concern with the potential side effects of the treatment process, many men avoid life saving treatment…let’s put an end to that!!!

Listen & learn tonight and call in too! 303/631-2101

Love,
Rashke

7-Eleven stores in the U.S will mark National Coffee Day this Thursday, Sept. 29 –between 7 and 11 a.m. So pop into a participating 7-Eleven store and get a free medium-size cup of hot coffee… or cappuccino or latte, while supplies last.

And here are a few coffee facts:

– 7-Eleven was the first retailer to offer fresh-brewed coffee in to-go cups back in 1964.

– Most of us want a beverage with our favorite donut – 70 percent choose a cup of 7-Eleven® coffee. And popular co-workers take both to work with them on a regular basis.

– 7-Eleven sells more fresh-brewed coffee than anything else (even Slurpies)– 1 million cups each day. That’s more than 10,000 pots of coffee an hour every hour of every day of the year

So, get on over to 7-Eleven for you’re free cup of Joe this Thursday morning while listening to “Murphy & Denise” and Jackie Selby!!

Love,
Rashke

T H I S  is the Sting I fell in love with back in 1978.  You know, “Roxanne” from the Police album ‘Outlandos d’Amour’? I was trying to figure out just how many times I have seen Sting in concert, and it’s not a number I am able to formulate!  So many times!!! The FIRST time was The Police with the Go Go’s, in Tempe Arizona, during a dust storm, at a long-lost venue called Compton Terrace at Legend City.  Circa 1980.  :)

Ha ha ha, yes, when I was a kid I loved the skinny rock stars.

Sting being interviewed by ME back in 2000, on KALC when we were downtown in the Tabor Center.  I’ve met Sting 3 times total, but this is the only time I’ve interviewed him ON THE AIR.  I was shaking the whole time.

This shot taken by me while he was singing “Brand New Day”, live on the air with me on Alice 105.9 (we used to call it Alice 106).  Did I mention I was scared to death during this interview/performance???  It was my crush, singing 2 feet in front of me!  Singing to ME and only ME (oh, and about 1,000,000 listeners).

He complimented me on my hug.  Needless to say, I gave him a great, big squeeze!

H A P P Y   B I R T H D A Y   S T I N G, you still look just like THIS to me.

Love,

Your Adoring Fan for Life

OH, how can I forget to mention that Sting will perform in Denver at Wells Fargo Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 20th.  Get tickets here.

We had FUN, FUN, FUN last Thursday at our “Girls Night Out” at Exempla Lutheran Breast Center.  Mammograms were had by all, in a fun, comfortable, and peaceful environment.  Well, to tell the truth, we kind of spiced up the place with a little food, wine, and Kosi fun.

This is Heidi, the manager of the center.  We did have about 50 women there, but I wanted to protect their privacy being patients and all, so no pics of the girls.  :)

Here are the desserts you missed, just to rub it in.  :)

PLEASE get your mammogram soon.  We have more parties coming up before the end of the year with Exempla, or just make your appointment at 303-403-3000.

Here is to a healthy you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
